Hi, Sorry to say I know nothing about the BC 659 radios as GRC9 and BC1000 are my thing!
However I was tempted by one at a local 'Depot Vente' at Coutances a few weeks back (gone now) that was almost a price I couldn't afford not to buy but I didn't, just bought a length of PSP instead!
Regards
Paul

g504,

Some of the rest of us might be interested in the answer, too.

The BC659Fr has many differences with the BC-659J (US made)

The French Service manual file is to "heavy" to be uploaded here... and is written in French.

So here are the main differences :
* Latches are of the double effect springs type.
* The front panel gasket is a molded type instead of the cutted type in the J model.
* The BC-659Fr cannot be mounted inside the US casing with the rolled edges.
* On the front panel, on the right side of the LS protection there is a button named "Système silencieux". (Squelch)
* On the top left side there is a window for the transistorized power supply to check if the PS is present and to show the 6V-12V switch position.
* The antenna output has been modified.(the weak flat spring has been replaced by a "pump" contact with an helicoid spring.)

* Inside, all tubes/valves are of the miniature type unlike in the J model.
* In the BC-659 J model there is a place for the polarization battery behind the front panel. It has been adapted for the transistorized BA-70 power supply.
* The BC-659 Fr model incorporates the VTVM voltmeter as a standard. This was a late option in the BC-659 J model.
* The polarization battery is placed at the left back side of the chassis.
* The squelch relay is positioned behind the Loud Speaker.

There are few other minor modifications.

The schematic is very different with the use of miniature valves, silicon and germanium diodes and the addition of the squelch circuit, a new modulator and a new discriminator.

So these two sets are much more different than it appears.
