WW2 Officers Mess Kit question

Post by thidisbogus » Sun Mar 18, 2018 5:06 pm

Does anyone know if there is a record of what exactly the contents of one of these boxes should be? I just purchased one that has "Texas Trunks" stamped on it.

I would like to verify I have everything that is supposed to be in it or acquire what is missing.

Isn't there supposed to be an additional part in the coffeepot?

I am pretty sure the coffee pot is not for making coffee but for holding coffee already made elsewhere and portioned to the set for the Officers. Looks like a nice set. Any dates on anything with it?

This is interesting. This topic has the set with enamelware M1941

You appear to have pre war 1937 aluminum ware

Saw 1956 on a platter so it may be postwar and aluminum was not an issue for wartime as in WW 2

Here is some info on Texas Trunk

The aluminum (+ stainless) sets were issued well after WW2. My guess is most of this set is 50s. Lots of undated components in the postwar sets. The giveaway on the chest itself is the metal side handles and the lid clasps.

K/F/S are mess kit issue, not the (more formal) type issued with these sets.

Thank you guys very much!

Are you saying that the chest itself is postwar as well?

What about the items that do not have dates? Do you reckon they are wartime?

Chest has to be postwar the trademark and company did not exist until 1948/49.
