Officer named footlocker and crates

I know it's not a Jeep but I'm hoping you guys can help me here.

Today's interesting purchase began with a Craig's List search for footlockers. George A. Gould was a family friend of the sellers. He passed away last February. They think he was in the Navy but don't know. I promised to keep the boxes intact. A friend will be taking them to use in a field office impression.

But the sellers and myself would all like to learn more about George and these boxes.

I know one is a 1942 footlocker and the top right box appears to have formerly been for an Officer's Mess set. Same varnished plywood interior but the dividers are different. The other two I have no idea. The long box appears to have originally had several fiberboard dividers. They are easily removed/adjusted. Any thoughts?
