Salvation Army--Council of Voluntary War Workers CVWW

Post by Rustman » Wed Jan 24, 2018 5:41 am

Casting a wide net here. I'll also be posting this to various places on Facebook as well.

I am looking for photographs, documentation, artifacts, insignia and anecdotes of the work of The Salvation Army during WW2 with the Canadian War Services or the Australian Comfort Fund (ACF). I have been all over the internet and have contacted The Salvation Army Heritage centers/museums/centres in the US, London, Canada and Australia. I also have a book each on it's way from Australia and from Canada. But I'm looking for any of the above that YOU may have. Here's a few photos just for attention;

Thank you but that is a source I've found. I was hoping to see if anyone here had any artifacts, photos or anecdotes from their own collections. My book on the Canadian services came in and it's been rather comprehensive. The Aussies too have things well documented. The British not so much. That is partly due I'm sure to being in the thick of it and not bothering to document their work as thoroughly. To the point that in 1941 during the blitz the headquarters in London was bombed and burned destroying a lot of records.

Update: From research I've learned that the Canadian and Australian Salvation Army support of the armed forces had very few women serving in combat theatres. BUT that the British did have women. A LOT of women who served overseas. In fact SEVENTY were with the BEF in 1940 and one women officer was killed by a German artillery shell that struck her vehicle as they were retreating to Dunkirk.

So I've shifted my focus of research to the Council of Voluntary War Workers (later "War" was changed to "Welfare"). I'm looking for photographs of CVWW workers from any of the voluntary organizations involved.

Thank you
