tanker jacket art

Post by mattewoods » Wed Apr 22, 2015 2:27 am

hi!
i have one question.
in the ww2 the painting or writing on the back of the jackets was accepted from USARMY or not?

in the WEB i found photos of B3 painted or other air force pilot jacket but nothing on tanker jacket, m41 etc...

if i would paint bugbunny on the back of my tanker jacket is correct or wrong idea?
I would use this in Italy on a tank

thanks in advanced
bye

A lot of troops started doing that before D-Day. It was not authorized by the military. (Damage to government property) But considering what they were headed into, many officers just looked the other way. I am reading a book by 29th Division soldier that landed at Normandy and he quotes the same thing.

Here's a Tankers Jacket that has been painted by a Dutch artist Anneke Helleman, who does mainly leather jackets. You can find her Facebook page here:

Me, neither and I could easily do decent work on the back of a jacket.
This is like putting 'nose art' on your MB/GPW in that it did happen during WW2 but in extremely small numbers, so small as to not seriously consider it (unless you were trying to re-create a real one actually painted in WW2).
