Re: Initial plans for 1911's from CMP
Wow that sure seems convoluted for just buying a M1911A1.
I suppose gone are the days of one for $300 which they averaged for about 30+ years.
Most of those sold off there will likely get moded and customized VS treated as historical collectibles I bet, but then will millennials even be able (desire) to fire a .45 (recoil, weight, size, handgrip, no synthetic stuff) or will it just be those with experience greater than the 9mm round in the military. Maybe it will go the way of the desk telephone.

I found it VERY convoluted, to say the least! I have to wait till I move OUT of NJ, as I don't feel like dealing with their "pistol purchase permit" BS again... Been through it a few times, no problem, but just don't WANT to again- and I want OUT of this state anyway!

But in this century, it will be the only way to purchase a former US military service pistol directly from a government agency.
(Of course I know about the Colt M1911A1's that were returned a few months ago from the USMC because of finish problems, but those were sold by Colt, not a US agency)

I can't believe that they aren't going to accept federal C&R licenses for these pistols. That is really bogus. I am really not feeling the love from CMP Central.

Because it will give you a heart attack if they did. I'm hearing $900 to start on the basement floor.

They’ve already said that any truly collectible pieces will be held off for special auctions. No chance you will get anything other than a mixmaster.

Re: Initial plans for 1911's from CMP
Read something today that detailed the buying procedure. It did NOT mention purchasing via Type 03 (C&R) FFL. Does anyone know if that’s correct?

I already said that they announced that they would NOT ship pistols to a C&R FFL 03.

Re: Initial plans for 1911's from CMP
I either did not see it or forgot. Sorry. Any idea why? I’m sure it’s $$$$$. Gotta support those Class 1 guys and make it as expensive as possible for us normal guys.
I might go talk to my local 01 guy and ask what he thinks.

No, it is fear of a handgun winding up in the wrong hands. There are being overly cautious because of the potential for bad press if a transaction goes wrong.
