Re: Help ID Russian Heavy gun
From what I can see it looks like a dshk 12.7mm Heavy Machine Gun.

This is an NSV. Was a replacement for the DSHK. In Russian service the NSV has been replaced by the KORD. All were 12.7x108

Re: Help ID Russian Heavy gun
Looks like it has been pieced back together and then welded using a cake decorator tip .

agreed but the top cover feed area and ammo can holder don't line up and the front mount point and the actual mount don't line up.

Re: Help ID Russian Heavy gun
That was what I meant in the earlier post. In the first photo there is a tab on the receiver that goes into a groove on the cradle. This a type of tank cupola "soft mount". The NSV recoils within this mount to alleviate battering damage. The NSV will beat itself to pieces if rigidly mounted

Re: Help ID Russian Heavy gun
Would help to post the picture of the whole monster/tracked vehicle.
As for 12.8mm being .50 cal, Dshk round is about 6% to 8% more powerful than the .50 cal. I have lots of respect for that round as I had a Dshk. Not that anyone came back complaining that the .50 cal was not adequate when they got shot.
