Garage turns out to be made from surplus Brit .303 ammo boxes (PHOTOS)

A contractor in Prescott, Arizona was amazed to find out the garage he was hired to demo was made up primarily of WWII-era British ammo crates.

The house was made in 1926, but as contractor Phil Nugent told the (Prescott) Daily Courier, the wooden ammo boxes were all dated 1943.

While marked as holding 1248-rounds each, Nugent thought he hit the milsurp motherlode or perhaps some other treasure until he cracked open the first one and found it empty– an act that was repeated dozens of times.

How cool. Makes you wonder where he "dumped" the boxes he did not keep. He should have listed them online for sale.

My Grandparents in Colorado had a large chicken coop building that was built out of stacked up MKII Signal Distress Bombs. The crates were full and contained 10ea of these gray clay/ceramic Bomblets. My Father was a WWII Pilot and he said that these were used for when a Pilot was down in the water somewhere....when the search aircraft located a Pilot they would hand toss one or two of these near the downed Pilot to highlite his location.
There was a type of Gold dust in these that would float on the water and was highly visible. So as kids we'd go in the coop and pry off a lid and grab a few....walk across the road and toss them in the creek....they'd bust and the Gold dust would float on down. Some of the the crates are still full today although the Gold dust has turned green...is clumped and doesn't float on the water anymore.

My employer’s barn is made out of US Military railroad crates from WW2. It is located just off the tracks in South Burlington,Vt. Built in ‘43. I discovered it when I tore off the old siding to rebuild the barn. Very cool.
