WWII 50 cal ammo cans for trade!
I am looking to trade my WWII 50 Cal ammo cans for 30 cal. The white one on the left is originally white and they were used in tanks early in the war. All in pretty good shape just need to be cleaned and painted.

These were all originally OD these were painted white with the red cross for the Civil Defense shelters in the 60's.I saw a lot of these in government civil defense shelters in the 60's.

The one on the right was painted white by my work and used for a first aid kit. The one on the left is originally white unless they stripped the OD prior to painting them. Also with the red cross and lettering from my work.

That's just what I was told when I posted about white cans specifically. Not necessarily an interior mounted weapon but the ammunition is stored inside is it Not? Even if the weapon is mounted outside.Farrell Fox wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2017 6:39 amWhat armored vehicle has an interior mounted .50 cal machine gun?

The only white cans I know of were for British AFVs. Vickers and BESA being the norm. .30 and .50 cans were green as the guns were demountable or external. It's plausible that the .50 box could have been used for something else within a certain AFV. Like a first aid kit.

In the 1950's the new Federal Civil Defense Administration which began in 1950 was tasked with supplying civil defense shelters with emergency supplies.WWII surplus 50 cal cans were blasted and repainted white for medical supplies and red for non medical emergency supplies. Many of the red ones were just painted red over the outside of the OD can not inside. The white ones sometime turn up but the red ones are extremely rare. They were color coded as not to confuse them with military ammo cans.

Re: WWII 50 cal ammo cans for trade!
Hmmm, reading this post bumped a couple of memory cells together. On the white cans, yes, some 30 cal cans did come in white.
I have a white 30 cal can, never been anything but flat white. I have owned this can probably 30 years, maybe more. It has twist lock closures on each end and a cardboard like seal. It is so old, I bought it for 69 cents. Yeah, an oldie.
Not meant to highjack the thread, just throwing in my 2 cents......ODG
