Yes there is still a reason to register an SBR. The brace is only for pistols not for stocked SBS rifles. The reversal is only for the brace as used as a shoulder fired weapon which was stupid on ATF's part and they knew it. The fact is, if you have a rifle with a barrel shorter than 16" and a butt stock, whether fixed, folding or collapsible, you need to spend the $200.00 for the tax stamp and register it as an SBR. A pistol with a brace is not a SBR. It is a pistol with a brace.

Why bother? The pistol with brace is off the books and you can travel with it easier. You don't have to ask mother may I with an ATF Form 5320.20 if you go out of state. It seems like a no-brainer in most instances. You could even carry one CCW if you wanted.

Your title is misleading, incorrect and doesn't say a word about a pistol. It clearly says SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) not SBP Again, you still need to file and pay the $200.00 tax stamp for an SBR. Everybody seems to be into fake news now.

Explain the difference between an SBR AR15 with an 11.5" barrel and an AR pistol with a brace and a 11.5" barrel. Other than semantics there isn't any practical difference. It is just my opinion on the matter having owned and fired both weapons platforms and can report little to no operating difference between them.

One uses a "clip" and the other uses a "magazine"?

Are you truly this ignorant?

Please read my other post.

The ATF makes the determination as to the brace issue, not you or your opinion. A weapon with a barrel length less than 16" requires either it is a short barreled rifle or it is a pistol. A pistol can not have a butt stock regardless of configuration, hense the ATF approved pistol stabilizer brace. And, if you have owned and fired both as you say you have you would have a full and complete understanding on the legalities and difference between the two configurations. Do they feel and shoot similarly? Yes. Are the similar? Yes. Are they the same? No and that is where your original post and title are misleading. In your original title you did not state opinion. You presented it as fact that an SBR no longer required the $200.00 tax stamp.

I've been around and dealt with weapons, the ATF and the legalities of the various different configurations most all of my adult life and as a former law enforcement officer I well know what is right and what is wrong. What you presented is wrong. Keep playing stupid all you want, I know much better.

We shall agree to disagree. It doesn't change the fact that these are the "good old days" when looking back when you can have so many choices as a consumer. Class 2 or Fostech Echo trigger? SBR or pistol brace? SBS or birds head grip?

Have you seen the Mossberg Shockwave 14" 12 gauge "other weapon"? Another neat option.

So you can't or won't answer. Kind of what I thought.

There is no need to. Look at the pics. There is no practical difference that warrants paying $200 more and severely limiting your use.

You are dead wrong Rob. A short barreled RIFLE must be registered and the tax stamp paid. What you are doing is advising people on this site to break the law by not registering an SBR. Your post claims that anyone on here can put an 11.5" upper on their AR rifle and call it good and legal. You are a fool.

Yes, there are side by side ARs in the picture. One is clearly a pistol with a stabilizer brace, the other a short barreled rifle with a collapsible butt stock.

Yes, an SBR has to have an approved Form 1. That has not changed. It is still an NFA firearm.
