Now the Army wants a 7.62 Nato MBR again

US Army Considers Adopting an Interim Battle Rifle in 7.62 NATO

According to multiple sources, what started out as a directed requirement for a 7.62 NATO Designated Marksmanship Rifle for issue to Infantry Rifle Squads has grown in scope to increase the Basis of Issue to all personnel in Brigade Combat Teams and perhaps beyond. The genesis of this requirement is overmatch. The troops feel like they’re in a street fight with a guy with longer arms. The 7.62x54R cartridge gives the enemy those longer arms.

You wait long enough and everything goes full circle eventually.

7.62 for when you really want to reach out and touch someone... only bettered by the .50 cal.
We've used that round since 1960.

Crazy how old becomes fashionable once again...
Marksmanship vs sheer firepower. The British and Canadian military has always prided itself in teaching one shot one kill. 7.62 affords this luxury.

Why 7.62x54R over 7.62x51? 8)

The Army was explaining that 7.62x54R is what the enemy is using to snipe with. It has far greater range and accuracy (at long range) than the 5.56 rounds. Therefore the soldiers find themselves at a disadvantage in long range combat in Afghanistan.

The comments on your link are all over the place.

It is somewhat difficult to see what the Army wants to do as these articles on different systems seem to come up every year or two.
