Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations
Like everyone has said your work is very impressive.
Since nobody has asked I will. Do you or have you ever considered offering your services to others?
I have several pieces I would like to have touched up.

Thank you for the praise!Urban Camo wrote:Like everyone has said your work is very impressive.

I have considered taking on some work...but honestly, the amount of time that it actually takes to complete/restore one round rolls into the multiple hours and the final cost to the "buyer" may be quite a bit overwhelming.
Thanks,

Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations
Great stuff, considering I have most that stuff this is especially interesting to me. I just picked up an original bazooka rocket crate with four original tubes in it. I'd love to get the crate filled with rockets some day. I also have the metal can for the M7 mines and I need to find reasonable repros to fill it with.
Any ideas for inexpensive good looking 60mm mortar rounds?
Your AT mine crate and mines are awesome. Thats a someday for the front bumper of the Willys for me.
I'm thinking a stencil printer is in my future
Great job

Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations
BTW the tubes in my crate were just single lengths with no end caps and no tape, etc.
I have no proof they are actually original, but they would have held the rounds securely in the crate as is.

I have a "MATCH" head stamped blank round here. I am sure it was a match round that was later reloaded into a black round.

Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations
Finally took some time from doing other projects and made some more stencils. These are tubes I previously fabricated. Only the end caps are original, and they were rusty when found. I fabricated the entire tube to correct length, covered in asphalt impregnated paper, just like the originals, with fabric sealing bands. I had previously not done the stenciling on these...just getting around to it. Enjoy!
Thanks,

Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations
Just a short grenade question-
I just picked up a casing only for what looks to be a Mk. II pineapple- no fuse, powder, etc., and I am trying to identify it... It is NOT an "RFX" version(I have one of those) the "pads" are reasonably sharp, not heavily rounded, and it seems to have a "C" and a number which looks to be a 5 cast in on one side(two separate pads). I have not tried my one WWII fuse in it yet, but it also has about a 1/2" dia. pot metal plug in the bottom- looks to be original... I am posting pics below-
Well, photobucket is down, so I'll post them when it is back up...
Scott
Grenade body itself:
Plug in bottom:
With correct fuse/incorrect spoon:
Compared to "RFX" practice grenade:
Parting line:
"RFX" grenade body also has a "5" and a "6" cast into it, perpendicular to each other, on two adjacent panels.I think the "RFX" one may be an original, not sure... Had it for a good number of years.
Any ideas what I have? Weight is around the same(by feel) but haven't thrown them on a scale yet...

Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations
Please feel free to start a discussion thread on your grenades. There are also several other threads on this forum that specifically discuss grenade markings.
Thanks,

Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations
New restoration work - WWII U.S. Ammunition Box Lids. These WWII boxes were all obtained without the original lids, so I fabricated new ones - aged them to match the box and stenciled them to match the LOT number to the corresponding box. Only the brown painted box on the top has its original lid (which I used as a pattern). Examples shown are: TAEGA, TAEAB, TACAL and T1IDR. Enjoy!
