Most armories have 1911's so wonder how many are actually on the books!

Surprised the cmp is getting them these days

Few months ago saw a heart wrenching sight! Had 12 roll off 24' long 8' tall bins going to recycle company that was completely full of carbine ammo that had been ran through a furnace. Even had the stripper clips and projos! These were from a local base scrapping the ammo out. Tried to buy the scrap but there was the famous contract in place that they were unable to sell any of it!!!

Where these are coming from is also the holding location for the weapons that belong to the Army museum system that are spares. If you look closely in the left rear of the photo you will see someone has colt reference book on the table. I was told just in that pile there were three RAF WW1 marked 1911's and 1 russian marked.

Did you take the picture? Did you see the guns or are you relying upon someone else?

I work in the Army museum system, the info and photo came from my boss who is the director of the US Army Air Defense Museum. His friend sent works at Anniston. I will have him post to here.

Rob,

I'm Dustin's supervisor and gave him permission to post this photo. It was sent to me by my colleague at ANAD that is working the project. This is just a small portion of the first bin of 1500 pistols they are going through.

Gentlemen, thank you for the job you do and thanks for sharing the photos. I had doubting Thomas's that saw them. Now I can set them straight.

Were they RAF marked or RFC marked? RAF marked Colt 1911s would be very rare as the RAF was only formed on the 1st April 1918.
Ford GPW 6008, in slow process of restoration.
