Mike, at the rate you crank out 50's it think you would have piles of 1919's.
I attempted to mock up a trunnion. I wasn't too impressed with my welding.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Just look at that beautiful work of art right there! I like the idea. I can't wait to get started on one. I still think you should cut the left plate I sent you for repair sections for the real pieces you already have. I'll send you some more plate if you need it. Like I said before I sheared a strip the right width the other day.

Oh, never mind. I see you already have it drilled. Let me know if I can whittle anything out to accellerate the process for you.

Thanks Mike,
I need to set my welder up for gas instead of using flux core wire. The mess is a pita to clean up. I have 2 right plates now so I might build a second gun if i get a real trunnion and barrel jacket.

I highly reccommend the gas shielded .030 wire and 75/25 gas.

Re: 1919a4 replica build
Obviously, my Valentine's Day was spent alone! Did more work on the trunnion. I've been stacking plates and plug welding so I can replicate the shape, short of cutting it out of 2inch thick steel.
Luckily most of the ugly stuff will be covered up when the sideplates go on. I will have to drill a hole thru this eventually for a barrel but we'll just wait for now.

Re: 1919a4 replica build
A Valentine's day well spent! We can buy gifts for our sweeties any day of the week, why then should we be required to be obligated on a specific day once a year. Let's be Valentines to them every day so that when February 14th rolls around they don't know the difference because we've already spoiled them rotten with smothering offerings the rest of the past year. Now we can spend time in the shed! Great work Brendan!

Do you need tubing for the barrel jacket or did you find a used one?

Don't have a jacket yet. Friday I will go to steel place and see what they have for tubing sizes. A real jacket is bout 1.88" diameter. I'm going to put an order with sarco for a junker barrel, jacket and top cover. Maybe some other goodies.

Re: 1919a4 replica build
That'll be alot easier than making one and you'll have one for reference for the next all hand build!

Re: 1919a4 replica build
As for a hand build 1919a4 I was wondering if any of them had the wooden grip 1917 back plate installed. If so it would simplify the fab work. That 1919 grip would be a real bugger to make by hand but the 1917 version would be a cinch. I have drawings for the '17 thanks to Bob Connor. Still don't have a bottom plate drawing though. T'won't be a big deal to estimate one.

Looking at this page, I have a cast 1917 backplate. The one I'm repairing is a cast 1919a4 plate. I'm no expert but it seems like the 30 Cal's are like m1 garands and they often got a mixture of old and new replacement parts

I have some 1 7/8ths dom tube(1.875). It's 1/8th wall, kinda thick but I could drill some holes in it and get it on its way to you if you wish. I don't know what to do about the booster though. I like the site with the back plates. Haven't seen it before. Let me know if I need to cut you a piece.

Mike,
I was looking toward DOM but don't think there is a supplier here locally. I might have to take you up on that. I will still order a real one so I can use my real booster.
