That would be much appreciated! But only do it if you're happy to share the information and hep another M6/M1 owner as I do not have any spare gear - see below

I confess I asked on here out of desperation, thinking you would probably have the information I've been seeking (see post 77, viewtopic.php?f=28&t=257815 ).

But my thinking was that if you could post information / pictures of what gear was issued, it might help us both (and probably others), because:

A) (to help me) if I can get the info I can make reasonable copies of any items I am missing - especially with a couple of key dimensions.

B) (to benefit you) I reckon a lot of this gear could well be sitting in peoples' stash of accumulated parts but they don't know what they are (and therefore probably don't need them?) - if they can identify the items you might get some leads on the gear you're after!

I've just sourced a set of seals here in UK (stock items) and have sent piston and pump rods off for grinding and chroming - the main piston seal has a larger i.d. but I can alter retaining washer to suit.

Most hydraulic Jack shops can supply the original spec seals for this unit.

Bomb Lift #2 will be Combat Ready shortly. It has been stored in a darkened room since 1949 with pieces of the original wrapping still intact. It is going to be repainted with TM 9 Ordnance #8 OD which is a perfect match for the original OD finish used on the M1 Bomb Lift. The Hydraulic cylinder functions perfectly with the original 1943 Oil. Some P-51 owner is going to be very happy.

M-1 Bomb Lift is actually considered a truck. It gets good fuel mileage on Army chow or "C" Rations. Imagine one of these with a 1000# bomb on it and having to push or pull it thru mud, snow, or slush. Have decided to give it a coat of TM9 WWII OD Lusterless, it is a perfect match for the original finish. Bomb Lift #2 is going on loan to the Local ANG unit for indoor display representing the P-47, P-51 and F-80 years of the unit. Will be adding a replica 500# Bomb to display along side the Bomb Lift.

Re: M-1 BOMB LIFT- READY FOR DUTY

Post by Joe Gopan » Tue Dec 15, 2015 2:41 am

Bomb Lift #1 and Bomb Lift #2 are ready for duty.
Both Bomb Lifts have original WWII Issue tires. Bomb Lift #1 has B.F. Goodrich "Knobby Tires", #2 has General "Grooved Tires". They originally were painted O.D. #8 Lustreless, the original paint faded due to age, Bomb Lift #1 was serviced and repainted with 2430 SG OD in 1990, #2 was serviced and repainted with TM9 Lusterless OD #8 December 2015, they both function as new with the original hydraulic fluid. Bomb Lift #1 with its tools is destined for an aviation museum WWII display. Bomb Lift #2 is in limbo, will look awful nice under the wing of a P-51.
These were surplussed from 14th Fighter Group, DOW FIELD, MAINE in 1949. The 14th FG was stationed at DOW from 1946 thru 1949 and equipped with P-47 Thunderbolts at first and were the first USAF unit to be equipped with operational P-84-B Thunderjets. The unit was a virtual "who's who" of WWII Aces from all theaters.

The M-1 BOMB LIFT is considered a Truck with 2000 Lb. Capacity and is part of the SNL-G-189 Group of vehicles. They were used during WWII thru the end of the Korean Conflict. It was designed to transport bombs from truck or dump to plane and the towing vehicle is listed as "man power".
All M-1 Bomb Lifts were manufactured by Weaver Manufacturing Co, Springfield, Illinois. They are the quietest WWII MV to operate.

M-1 Bomb Lift #2 (The one painted OD #8) can be yours with the trade of a quality built BVM or Skymaster large scale model RC Jet. Need not have electronics, want for display only.

Each WWII Bomb Lift will be accompanied with a small supply of AAF CHAFF from the WWII thru Cold War Period. The CHAFF is in 3-1/2" X 9-1/2" X 1" Packets. I used to find chaff hanging from trees in the vicinity of USAF Bases back in the early 50's
Pics to follow later on.

Thanks, Joel! Great, something else to search for and collect  . My Grandpa was a motor pool mechanic at the tail end of Korea, and my Dad was a 'Weapons Puke' at the tail end of Vietnam. Being a load toad on A-10's and A-7's will have me searching for any and all items related. Gotta find me a motorized bomb lift now...

Jammers have shown up at the sales over the past 25 years, they are well used and cannibalized. I haven't followed the sales since DRMO Sales ended. Check the surplus dealers near the large bomber bases, B-52, etc.

What is the price of one of your M-1 Bomb Lifts? 8)
