What was the original method of securing the M1 bomb lift truck on the bed of the M6 bomb service truck? The wheel pocket is seen on many trucks, but what kept the cart on. The Ordnance Supply Catalog section 1503 list three parts (1) Hook, bomb service cart (2) Nut, wing, bomb service cart hook (3) Rod, bomb service cart hook w/swivel. What do these look like? What thread size is the nut? Also from the Ordnance Supply Catalog it list a Field Service Modification Work Order G85-W10 Installation of securing device for truck, M1 bomb lift. Did this modify how the M1 was secured?

Will consider trading my M-1 Bomb Lift with accessories for a BVM or Skymaster F-80C Shooting Star large scale RC Jet for use as a display.

Starting on my G-189 TRUCK M-1 BOMBLIFT #2, it's NOS, 1943 dated. Note that it still has some of the original paper wrapper on the handle, It still had the yellow serviceable tags from when it was turned in by the 14th Fighter Group at Dow Field in late 1949 up to a few years ago. It will get a good cleaning, fresh lusterless OD paint, tires, tubes, hydraulic oil and will be good as new. Next to find another replica bomb and warbird to display it with. It took a few years (20) to come up with the original accessories such as lifting bars, etc., and the cradle to rest the bomb on thanks to the many friends that always remember favors and practice a "two way street".

This M-1 Bomblift has smooth tread BF Goodrich smooth tread tires. They are 5.00-4 Aircraft tires. The tires lost their air pressure and are a bit stiff, a new set of BF Goodrich knobby treads and WWII Issue inner tubes fresh out of the WWII BF Goodrich box will give the Bomb Lift a proud appearance. The tires are very easy to change as the solid wheels split in two after removing the three 3/8" bolts.
Note the original WWII OD Lusterless paint, and bits of the original paper that once covered it, when I first saw these 66 years ago they were crated and wrapped in paper, time and atmosphere has taken a toll on the appearance of this one. OD Lusterless was not meant for rust control, it was meant to be a camouflage finish. I thought about leaving it alone and just servicing it, but it would not have the appearance this unused WWII item deserves A coat of TM9 WWII lusterless OD will do it some justice.
M-1 Bomb Lifts in original condition are very rare. They were sold by the hundreds as scrap after the Korean War. Many thought that these would make good transmission jacks, but they are not suited for anything but what they were originally intended for.
Note the two foot operated levers, the long one is used to raise it and the short one lowers it.
The restored M-1 Bomb Lift has been a popular Air Show attraction with the WWII and Korean War veterans.
This one will probably end up in a museum.

Started stripping down the M-1 today in order to service and paint. It is dated 6-43 same as the other except it has BF Goodrich smooth tread airplane tires unlike it's mate with the same date which had grooved General airplane tires. What's neat is that the hydraulic lift still operates with the original 1943 hydraulic oil. The paint underneath the platform appears not faded and a dead ringer for the TM9 WWII Lusterless. The wheels are ready for paint and NOS WWII GI Issue tires and Tubes are on the shelf waiting.
The hydraulics are still perfect after 72 years, it still operates as the day it left the factory.
