I see a few folks are looking for the locks for the Converto Dump trailer tail gate. I made a few preliminary calls to custom foundries in the US to get an idea of prices and procedures to make a hand full of the locks. The following costs are based on sand casting using an existing part in a mold casting one part at a time.
Ball park pattern work will cost $600-ish
Mold set up fees will run around $250
materials cost and pour fees will run around $300-400
Total $1150-$1250
The cost will not vary by much per part since the mold set up and materials fees are fairly constant. Its simply a matter of spreading out the initial pattern costs over the production run. Looking at around $115-125 plus shipping per latch.
The left and right latches are different? I do not have a left latch to refer to, but I see the TM shows two part Nos, 5300-1 and 5300-2 and the -1 part has a small square handle on it. The foundry expert said it would be best to make the part with the handle, then grind off the handle to use on the left side. The only thing that will happen to is that it will have a hole drilled in it and a screw placed in the hole. That can be removed and the hole filled and sanded.
QUESTION WHo would like to jump on the band wagon and get the required part for the trailer?:
I am willing to make arrangements and pay up front, then collect the actual cost and shipping for those who want one. Honor system for those who say they are "IN"

Re: Converto Trailer Tail Gate Locks
I'm pretty sure Josh Roach (jeepjop) already makes them. He makes almost every part for the converto, so it's worth shooting him a message.
I have a few extra stanchion spring bolts (the landing leg pin) if you need one.
