Pics sent by JeepJop regarding the dimensions of the holes and mounting of the rod details. I had questions on how the rod was mounted through the locks and the sizes of the various holes.

If you get that old lunette off, I'd appreciate some pics of the old lunette and the part that it mates too. I'm assuming rather than a casting as used on the 1/4T trailers, this is a cone machined out of a solid piece of steel and welded to the A-arm assembly?

Luke,
After 6 hours it finally came off. The booger was a hex screw in the top and that whole affair was welded shut. I'm not sure if this is thin or thick type now.

Here is a very rough comparison of the profiles of the one in my converto and allegedly a WW2 lunette.

Luke,
Here are the measurements. I could not get the camera to focus well. Tried a few different modes. It is a single piece, cylindrical in shape, 3.525" long and 2.460" in diameter. Keep in mind a bit was ground off the front, perhaps a few thou. I measured with a set of Lyman reloading calipers. . The inner portion appears to be milled in a linear taper with no steps or concave/convex ramps. The inner front and back measurements are posted on the image. Hope this helps.

Here is the lunette end. The two cone shaped portions follow the same profile as the inside of the receptacle above, with the exception of the void for the grease pocket. Disregard the hole as that was drilled by bubba to hold the hex screw that was welded in place.

Nearly complete wiring harness. SHould be simple to craft a replacement.

My cheap KD replacement lenses came in for the side reflectors. These are Stimsonite No 12A from the 50s/60s and although the grain of the reflective surface does not match, only the Converto thread Nazis will notice. I'll just clean up and repaint the bezel and backing plate, install a new rubber ring and they will look just fine.

The new wing nuts are in. They are not perfect, but a very close match. I will need one and a spare. If anyone wants one or more, I can send them out at exact cost.

Part $3.33 nut
USPS $3.00
bubble envelope small$0.45
$6. 78 shipped via USPS first class in a bubble wrapped envelope (The variation in thickness causes the fee to go above the standard 2 oz letter rate).

Just send me pm if you want one.

Two pushes the rates into a flat rate small shipper at $7.15 and $6.66 for two nuts for a total of $13.81

PS: I am not making any money on these, just getting rid of the extra at cost.

Just messing with the wiring diagram thinking of building a harness myself. It should be easy to match the wires and build a harness using the old for parts and length of wires. Several companies sell vintage cloth wrapped wires and the coverings.

What gauge is this supposed to be?

I could not find a definitive reference for the COnverto wiring harness size and don't have a gauge handy to verify. A notable vintage wiring company uses 14ga to build their Converto harnesses. According to on-line vintage wiring harness sources, 14ga wire is suitable for loads up to 32 amps. This all makes sense now.

I have ordered appropriately colored and ticked cloth covered vintage-esque 14ga wire to build a harness. I will salvage all of the connectors (replace where necessary) and make a harness covered with the correct protective covering. Will post images as I progress later. Here is the site I purchased from at $0.60/ft

Assuming the Converto uses the same light buckets as the jeep, the crimper for the spade ends is exorbatantly expensive. You can get pigtails from a certain very popular vendor who may support (cough provide) this forum.

I am assuming you are referring to these. He has some modern made ones on his site under the electrical page that look suitable if I cannot restore these.

Special parts will include
1. 2-1 connectors
2. light socket connectors (single and double)
3. male and female bullet ends for the 2-1 connector
4. ring connectors
5. 2-1 connector insulator

Here are the specialty connector parts mentioned above, It seems the 3,9 mm bullet connectors will be suitable for use with 14ga wire and they will handle loads just under 70 amps. THere are several kits available with enough connectors (male and female, single and double) to do several harnesses or projects for just a few bucks.
