Re: Converto Dump Trailer 0885566 New Home
Does anyone know the length of the Converto pigtail from the BO switch on the frame to the bakelite plug?

Re: Converto Dump Trailer 0885566 New Home
I've always used same cable length as the MBT t3 cables. I've had a few NOS and figured likely same supplier. I want to say it is 77 or 82 in and a fraction +-1/2" A bit of a search on the G503 or jeep draw will bring up the correct measurement. It seems kind of long but the plug/cable tucks into the document pouch nicely when not in use.

Thank you for the info. I did not know about the use of the bag for excess cable I'll do a search in the 1/4 ton section.

Harness is getting close. Just need to attach the lisght sockets and plungers. I may add another small piece of loom to the ends once I see how everything meshes together before I solder the spring plungers.
I used 3/8" for the 4 and 3 wire portion (very tight squeeze)
and 1/4" for the 2 wire part (even tighter)

PS: I will use some proper ww2 style tape to clean up the loom splices at the 1-2 connector.

Re: Converto Dump Trailer 0885566 New Home
I finished the wiring harness today. I learned quite a bit in the process of adding the light socket connectors. Here is the process I went through. Make sure before you solder anything that you dry fit the parts and make sure you have correct lengths on loom, wire etc.
1. Strip the wire to a length equal to the spring ferrule that will e soldered to the end of the wire.
2. Insert everything onto the wire end in the correct order
4. Admire (or curse) your work

2. Insert everything onto the wire end in the correct order
- asphalt loom (cut length so that it will just butt up to the bakelite holder when assembled)
- metal socket
- metal loom sleeve
- bakelite ferrule holder (The two ends are different. One has a recessed cup to receive the collar of the ferrule the other does not and will make the ferrule stand proud of the bakelite if inserted wrong)
- metal spring ferrule (end of wire should be approximately at the end of the opening)
4. Admire (or curse) your work

Re: Converto Dump Trailer 0885566 New Home
I recently purchased another canvas lubrication guide holder for the trailer. It is always interesting to see how the different manufacturers finished their products. It could also be the date of manuf.
The first one I had is a bit faded, but makes me think of transition materials, showing two slightly different tones of OD, although it may simply be the difference in how the die on the canvas fades as compared to the die on the trim material on the edges. The other bag has absolutely no wear or fading and is still vivid OD shade No 7.
The newer one has two snap fasteners for the flap with side ears to keep water out I suppose and the stenciling is smaller with the additional words LUBRICATION GUIDE KIT With the exception of the flap closure ears they seem fairly identical in size and construction. Two nice variations for the Converto Trailer.
I wonder if there are more variations.

Re: Converto Dump Trailer 0885566 New Home
I finally found the correct No. 14 reflector lenses for the converto. I have another amber one on the way. Note the texture of the reflective pattern done in 10 columns x 18 rows of rectangles rather than dots or squares. These have been elusive for me.

Hello Oz,
Very nice find on those elusive reflectors !!
Where did you find them, from the G or searching at flea markets ?
It is amazing what can be found when looking for something
You have a great trailer restoration thread here, and your wire harness looks absolutely impressive !!
Best Regards,
Ray
