1942 Type A-1 Fuel Servicing trailer parts needed
Hello to all. I recently picked up this Standard Type A-1 Fuel Servicing trailer that is missing some parts. I am looking for the engine/pump system with plumbing, rear bumper(?), and some landing wheel parts. Anything else that someone might notice the trailer is missing would be appreciated. I can't seem to find many pictures of the Type A-1 or A-3 fuel serving trailers out there. The original engine/pump system went bad and was replaced by an electric pump. There is some kind of filter looking tank on the front of trailer that he says was there when they bought the trailer from surplus. I have not seen any others with this on it. It also had something mounted on the back of the trailer, but the guy I got it from couldn't remember what was there, he thought maybe a hand pump. Would that be correct? The trailer was bought from surplus after the war and was used on large farm to take fuel out to equipment until last year when I picked it up. I made a deal on it last year but he wouldn't let me pick it up until they were done with harvest, as they were still using it. One question I do have, is there something missing on the inside of the tank. There are 4 spring hangers(?) on the inside of the tank when you open the lid. I don't know what they do. Another question is do I restore it or leave it original. It is a survivor. I am hoping some one knows of one that I can get detailed photos of. Thanks for looking.

I have an A-3 that I am restoring, so I have been compiling a photo archive of all fueling trailers I can find. Attached are all the original A-1 images I have. They are linked to the Surface Zero photo hosting so you should be able to click on them to get to the original file. If not, I can email them to you.
I know of three A-1's in private hands in the US. You certainly have your work cut out for you are parts are EXTREMELY hard to find.
It looks like your manhole cover is correct. The hinges are so you can remove the cover and have a larger access hole. I think Clay & Bailey Mfg. Co. made the manhole covers. I know them made them for post-war equipment. See http://claybailey.com/wp-content/upload ... OG-129.pdf for the type of cover they made for the military.
You can see that the A-1's had a engine-driven pump on the front and a hand-powered pump on the rear.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Neat find! (And neat pics, Robert- I got a laugh out of the one with the Cletrac towing a half dozen or so!)

Robert,
Great pictures. I have not been able to find any that good. Any idea where I would find what engine and pump came on these trailers? I need detailed photos and TM manual. I also have a Type A-3 that is pretty complete. It won't be as bad to restore. I have a Briggs from the early 40's that I was going to use and try to find an old pump and plumbing. Might not be correct but it would be something until I could find the correct ones (if I could at all). I would like to here from someone that has a complete one that would be wiling to take some real good detailed photos for me. I really want to get these somewhat done and pull them behind my F-3 CCKW tanker.
Thank you for the great photos!
Brian

Hey Brian! You sent me some photos of your A-3 a couple months ago. They have been very useful! I'm glad I could help you out a bit with your A-1.42G7106 wrote:Robert,

Unfortunately, those are all the pictures of A-1's that I have.
