Re: Some rare 37mm items
I love the canister round. I had one when I had my Stuart.
The neat thing about having the boxes, is they were just junk, meant to be thrown away. The fact that any of them have lasted over 75 years is amazing.
My best find on a ammo box is for my 57 mm, anti tank cannon.
I live in Memphis and it was made in Memphis by E L Bruce company in JUL 1942, and packaged in 8 1943. Bruce was a wood flooring before the war. And Bruce MS, was a Bruce Company Town. They owned all the trees around there....

Can you take a picture of the primer end of the casing, on the M2 .22 caliber sub-caliber round, please.

In almost 30 years of collecting 37mm ammo for these guns, that is the first government issued .22 cal adapter that I have ever seen.

Re: Some rare 37mm items
A relative of mine was in a cannon unit it WW2, and was apparently proficient enough that he was assigned to train other guys stateside before being deployed. The actual use of these 22lr shells was entertaining to hear about. There would be a string on a series of pulleys, attached to which would be little paper tank targets. Someone would move the string, and the "tank" would travel, at which point the guys would shoot at it. They had to hit some many of the moving targets to qualify.
He also mentioned using these 22lr shells to shoot quail and so forth on the training range, birds that would then be roasted for the other guys. He rather enjoyed this last bit.

Re: Some rare 37mm items
I made this .22 adapter over 20 years ago. I found a perfect unfired case with a threaded primer hole, and used that to make it. I have never seen another such case. I also just made this 12 ga. adapter, and it seems to fire tracer slugs well enough. I have not really tested it for accuracy though.
