ammunition "hold"

Post by julien54 » Sun Oct 15, 2017 6:31 am

Hello

I am 100% these are US from ww2. It was found together in a river in eastern France.

The rubber round is perfect size for 81 mm container and the round ones are for the 105 (good size too). I have the empty container to compare.

Do you know in which kind of crate/container they were used ?

The R1QCN round stuff is for the 105. Do you know where it is supposed to be ? I have never seen one or a metal or wooden container

Thanks

The round rubber piece - bottom left - is used with 75mm Pack Howitzer Fibre tubes (possibly other ammo) - when placed inside the metal air-tight tubes as a packing piece to stop the fibre tube from moving around.

I bought some of the metal tubes which were complete with the fibre tubes inside and this is how they were packed.

Might be able to find one of them at the weekend.

Hope that helps

Tim

Edit - The 81mm Fibre ammo tubes are same width as 75mm Gun, 75mm How and 57mm Gun - possibly others.
