Sexton Tank Barrel

Post by pavedragon » Sat Dec 03, 2016 8:09 am

I was wondering if anyone has any research that shows if this muzzle brake came off a Sexton 1 based on the serial number on the muzzle brake?

FL11455 is the part number for a muzzle brake for a Mk 2 25 pdr using barrel part numbers FL2401 and FL3869.

Sexton used a CFL5484 brake.

Thank you. The other side of the muzzle brake is marked 30690-4-M-3347. Any thoughts on that one?

Plus there is a C in front of the FL11455 number.

The C prefix would indicate Canadian manufacture, no idea about the other number. I would assume it is from a field piece but it could easily be from a Sexton.

I think it unlikely that the S1 means Sexton 1 but you never know!

Manufactured by S.I.L Canada and as Adrian stated could have been fitted to a towed or tracked 25 pdr.

Is there any documents that show serial numbers and origins of these pieces. I'm not saying anyone is incorrect, just want to try to find verifiable info on the pieces. Thanks for all the help. :D

Good news, I found some more numbers on the very end of the muzzle. It is still attached to the muzzle brake so I will have to remove it to clean it up and read them.
