I've been working to restore our Howitzer, I know some think I shouldn't take the British changes off but it's was too expensive to save them. I will however post pic's of the parts I remove.

The axle is almost finished, it will not be a traversing axle but it will look like one. At this point its bolted together. It needs to be shortened a bit... then welded. a rubber boot will be added on the one side also. We still haven't acquired rims and tires, but they can be purchased new ( reproduction ). The The gun elevator mechanism has been freed from weld and age and works good. We are trying now to get a local business to donate sand blasting and paining service. Thanks for all the great info

Here it is shortened and set off center, the bolt will disappear after welding. I used two toilet plungers cut down to make the boot

That boot is supposed to be leather.
