WWII Ordnance Fiber Tubes - Identification and Sizes

Post by Quest Master » Fri Mar 04, 2016 9:12 am

Moderator, please make this a sticky for the Artillery forum.
Out of frustration, I decided to start a thread for WWII Ordnance Fiber Shipping Tubes. There have been many times I have found metal end caps while metal detecting or an empty tube at a show that I had no idea what the contents were for. So, I decided to start a a thread for historians and people who do restoration/fabrication work, with the known identification of a fiber shipping tube, plus all of the measurements. Please feel free to post details of your WWII tubes and shipping containers with as much detail as possible so that it shows up in search engines like Google.

I have the Ordnance drawings for the full range of these giving dimensions, constructional details and end cap embossing. Obviously it only covers those in use at that time but it covers all the wartime ones.

I have some of the tubes, but they've been in the desert for 70+ years and they've probably shrunk, etc, so I won't give the tube dimensions as they're not accurate. I'd love to see the diagrams that tankbarrell has. So, to start this off, I'm offering the endcaps I've found.
