40mm Bofors Parts

Post by panzerbob » Wed Oct 21, 2015 7:31 pm

Hello everyone, I'm moving, and one of the casualties is my pile of 40mm Bofors parts. The wife agreed to let me move the armored car project, but she drew the line at continuing the Bofors.
I'm getting rid of some good barrels, and recoil cylinders as well as other small parts. I'm more a CW artillery guy and I have no idea what to ask. Can anyone please advise me on what recoil cylinders/40mm barrels go for?

Thanks

barrel are relatively easy to find (unlike the 75mm Sherman barrel which is essentially made of unobtainium) because they are same from the Duster and earlier progeny of the Duster. Not very many shooter Bofors either so that makes them cheaper...best guess - $500-$1,000 if rifling is good. I sold a dummy 40 Bofors barrel fro $300 about a year ago. Recoil cylinder - ??? never seen one for sale and largely those are included in any gun carriage that goes with a barrel....so ???

I need to find or make 4ea flashhiders to put on the USS Missouri Quad 40 mount the Virginia War Musem just saved from rotting down by darn at the Va. beach oceanfront.
It's going to be a pain bending the thick metal, but I see no other (relatively cheap) way to get them.

“During World War II and the Korean War, the USS Missouri had 20 40mm quad mounts and 49 20mm guns, all of which were removed during modernization in the 1980s, replaced with four Vulcan/Phalanx 20mm Gatling guns,” said Mike Weidenbach, the Missouri’s curator.
