Yes, it's for the 105 M2A2 howitzer. There is a similar light for the 155 towed, but the hole is much larger.

Usually these light assemblies come with scrape marks on the bottom of the lamps from them dragging on the ground after they work loose and fall off.

I use a similar one with the later Composite Lights when I tow bar with my M-756A2 The cable is long enough and allows tail and directional lights.

We never used these. We had towed 155mm M198 howitzers. We used Chemlights dangling from the muzzle cover.
