3x 75mm AA guns

Post by Scott in NM » Sun Jun 22, 2014 5:44 pm

Happened to be on a business trip at one of our closed BRAC military installations. At the base of the former control tower were three 75mm AA guns from WWII. As this is a former military base turned over to civilians, who would have title to these things, i.e. who do I need to contact to make a deal? Do they still belong to the Feds? Would anyone with an official title care what happened to them? They didn't have breeches from what I could tell (I'm not an expert on such things), but otherwise they looked pretty complete. Anyone care to chime in and provide a teaching moment?

Interesting scenerio. This seems different than the generic "who owns the tank at the vfw" that we see so often. Hmm.

Look for the Local Reuse Authority (LRA) for the base. Most of the time, title to items like these remain with the Government, but they're on loan to the LRA.

I'm largely with this. Check with the reuse authority and see what they say. If the property was transferred as is (buildings, etc), they may own them. If stuff like this was held by the army, it can't leave, of course.

Would it be possible to get pics? 75mm was not a US anti-aircraft gun caliber, so I'd definitely be interested in seeing what these are.

Thanks!

The M51 Skysweeper was a US 75mm anti-aircraft gun.

Is it a 3inch people refer to 3inch as 75mm? US 3inch AA was GUN M3 on M2A2 mount. PDQF
