75MM Pack Howitzer Value Question

Post by GPA2196 » Thu Jun 19, 2014 4:34 am

Guys,

I'm thinking about selling my live 75MM Pack Howitzer on Form 1 and its accompanying collection. Have any live registered guns sold recently I'm curious on how to price it. The gun is in great shape and fully restored. I'm also curious about the value of the collection as I believe it's significant in its scope. The collection includes an incredible M9A2 paracaisson with original markings, wood, NOS tires, tool kit and extra axle and tires/wheels etc... multiple complete telescope sights, M1 Aiming circle with case and light, tow light, NOS sight box, 2 cases WWII dated (30) brass empty blank cartridges, 1 case post war empty aluminum blank cartridges, NOS hand spike, extra handspike, complete wooden cleaning staffs including hard to find center section still in wrapping, gunners quadrant in case, slide rules in case, rammer, three cleaning brushes one with NOS cover, sight cover NOS, original WWII paratrooper artillery garrison cap, two sets aiming stakes, post war cleaning staffs, one projectile with intact rotating band, one WWII brass drill round, 4 brass casings, original NOS unused gun book (extremely rare), artillery manual from WWII, WWII News poster of mules hauling pack how up pikes peak, Leather muzzle cover, leather oil case containers, leather cover for breech end of tube for pack load, two NOS lifting bars. Also two sub caliber devices to shoot 10 gauge blanks one brass one aluminum.

Tony

Here in the UK / Europe, you'd have to pay at least 35k GBP for that lot... probably more... if you can find one for sale.

Thanks Ed and Tim,

Yes Tim, I was thinking about 50K-55 USD which is in line with your estimate the complete M9A2 paracaisson is worth close to 4K alone. Ed I believe I paid 30K for the gun before I accessorized it about 6 years ago I have to believe a rare desirable piece of WWII artillery has not depreciated to that level especially being a US transferable Destructive Device. I have not seen a live transferable one for sale lately, but maybe I'm not looking in the right places. I appreciate the feedback guys I just want to make sure I'm not giving it away or taking advantage of anyone on the flip side. Hard to comp when the supply is low. Any other information from anyone would be helpful.

Thanks,
Tony

Pm sent on a sales comp in the last year
If your gun doesn't leak oil, it's time for a bigger gun.

I'd go 15k for her bc of the 1" scuff on the bottom of the tire. Those scuffs just kill the resale value. Hate to see her go as she is/was your baby and I thought I had you convinced to mount her on the front of your new toy / living space.

A fully serviced and annually excercised recoil mechanism will add $$$K to the value, a late (postwar modified A8 recoil even more) as this one has the postwar cradle hold upgrade on the carriage, it might even have that.

There were no red/white painted aiming posts with the Pack, the lifting bars were used, with painted canvas sleeves, saves weight and space!

Hope you'll sell it for the asking price. (good to know resale/insurance value for the present owners of one, or two!)
