75mm Pack Howitzer - Special Repair Tool Chest

Post by Packhow75 » Thu Jan 24, 2013 3:45 am

Does anyone here own the Special Repair Tool Chest - D5433 - for the 75mm Pack Howitzer?

If so, is this in good condition complete with all the trays and tools, and can you post any nice colour photos please?

NB - I have photos from the manual - as per page 49 here:

http://www.easy39th.com/files/TM_9-1320 ... s_1944.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

but these are not so clear even in my original copy of this manual - modern colour pics would be better.

Thanks

As said - would love to see modern colour pics of this and the tools - if anyone has any they'd be prepared to share.

Also would be great to have confirmed list of which tools are stored in this location.

Cheers

I bought one of these about 25 years ago at a army surplus store in Pollack louisiana for $10 . I sold it a few years later because I never thought that I would own a pack howitzer . Now I own a pack and wish I had it back . Warren Duchesne

I bought the one for sale on Epay in the last few days... unfortunately no tools, and missing the internal dividers... hence wanting to find someone with one so that I can clearly see what's missing - fortunately the dividers are all wood and screwed in place - so it should be feasible to have them refabricated and replaced - so long as I can get a pattern to work from.

From my 1953 reprint - so less clarity than the WW2 original.

Empty pic for Bottom and Middle trays.

Nb - If anyone had a spare Middle Tray for sale - please let me know - this is missing for my chest.

Warren

I will let you know - If I get any wooden parts remanufactured, will also keep you in the frame. I think a lot of people found the chests far more useful to keep stuff in without the wooden holders in the chest - hence why it seems the two other people I know with one of these chests have them as empty boxes.

Once I have the full parts list for the box I will post it... then it would be great to see pics of all the parts in a similar fashion to that on the Armour section for the Scout Car.

Does anyone own one of these chests?

And if so... would you be prepared to share photos of the trays and inside so I can work out what's missing from mine.

It's clear many of the internal fittings were screwed in - so I shouldl be able to get repro parts made - but I need good colour photos to work from.

If anyone is prepared to share some photos, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Have ringed in Red the items of note.

From left to right:

1) White mark - shows where a block has been removed (unscrewed) - Need to get a good picture of this so I can get a replacement made
2) White mark - shows where something else was - not unscrewed, so wonder if there was a felt block or similar - again need to see what's missing here in a good clear photo.
3) Jagged Cut - fortunately the construction of the tray is such that this section can be replaced/repaired easily.

Can anyone help please?

Cheers

Underside of top tray... more questions...
SRTC-4-s.jpg
SRTC-4-s.jpg (132.41 KiB) Viewed 1436 times
Red rings... more marks where there are parts missing.

Blue ring... shows where the tray had been resting on the sockets stored below... though am unsure what the purpose is of the fitting attached to the bottom of the tray... seems a bit too elaborate to just hold the tray up - so what's stored here?

Green ring - shows where the screws should go for the missing fitting from inside the tray.

So... any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Hi Tim,

Wil post some pictures of my toolchest in a minute, gutted, even a lot more then yours!

But while filing my pictures, I found some that I got from???? anyway, here a picture of a reasonable complete one, that is without the tools.

Sorry, for the quality, I think this chest was sold 5 years ago on Ebay, so someone must have it!

Cheers,

Lex
