Pack 75 Ram Staffs

Postby Zwoodman » Fri Jun 29, 2012 12:32 pm

Well I just completed my first set of reproduction ram staffs for our museum education gun detachment Pack 75! I have two more to do to put into the Marine Corps exhibit in the US Army Artillery Museum.

Very nice Zane. What species of wood did you use?
If your gun isn't big enough to have an oil leak, it's time for a bigger gun.

Hey Dustin,

I used Maple...I could have used oak also but I did not have any on hand and the cost is a little more. The ends you sent are the next to put together with the next set I turn!

Nice job.

Are originals hard to get... or just too expensive?

Both... We have been looking for a set for awhile, and made two and a half sets of reproductions from the pair of ends we picked up late last year! cost us about $1200+ for 5 male ends, 3 female ends and 3 couplers.

1200 USD... ouch...

There were staff sets for sale at the War and Peace show here in the UK about 5 years ago... I think I paid 50 GBP for a set!

Also pretty sure the ends are the same as the Sherman rods and they turn up a fair amount (could then be cut down).

I may just buy some more next time I see any!

I have a few staffs, the hard one to get is the one with two ends, I had them at the convention last week, the hard one to find was still wrapped in paper, I debate whether to take it out or its wrapping or not LOL

Cheers,

Tony,

I have enough staff ends now to complete all three sets once I turn the next four staffs! Right now we are looking for the bell rammers and bore brushes (3 of each)... do you know of a source we can get them?

Hey Zane, I have those pieces. I got my rammer and brush from Westland in the Netherlands. The bore brush is typically on ebay every week, I think about 80 USD... I used my brush Saturday, its a pretty tight fit and takes a bit to get it through.

Good Luck,
Tony

Doug,

These are not for sale... we reproduced these for the museums guns in our collection and educational gun detachment demonstrations!

Sorry if it looked like we were selling them
