CCKW brake parts
I have been working on a newly acquired open cab CCKW. Found that Napa Auto Parts carries a number of brake parts that will fit perfectly including the rear wheel brake cylinders part number UP 3677, US Made. Hope this info will help out others doing some restoration work. Lee Edwards

They are all working fine. Quality looks as good as anything else, maybe better.

Re: CCKW brake parts
be careful with the rears. I bought a set, made in china of course and one of them has something wrong with the adjuster and the body. It sticks in one place and does not rotate freely.
Also, oil the rear adjusting nuts on the outside of the backing plate periodically to make sure that they don't rust in place. I also move the adjusters back and forth at least once a year after oiling them to make sure that the adjusting cap is not frozen to the body of the cylinder.

Re: CCKW brake parts
Thx Scroungerm5,
Its good to know that USA made cylinders are still available.
When I did the brakes on my truck several years ago, I assembled the wheel cylinder caps using a silicone based, high temp brake grease. This provides lubrication for both the threaded adjuster, and the cap to cylinder interface. It also and helps protect them from corrosion. Since it is silicone based, it will not hurt the rubber parts - unlike petroleum based lubricants. At the time, I used Permatex 24115 disc brake caliper lubricant. I no longer see this product on their web site, but I am sure they probably have a compatible replacement.
I also replaced those flimsy, stamped sheet metal pivot pin retainers, with stainless steel e clips. After purchasing my truck, the first thing I did when I got it home was pull all of the brake drums. One of those clips had fallen of and was stuck to the brake shoe:
I definitely second the advice of the good doctor. I routinely move the adjusters to make sure they are not frozen.
5 years after the original brake overhaul, at the annual brake inspection, things still look good.
(The gold color on the caps is a zinc-chromate plating that I had a local plating shop electo-plate the caps with. Also helps resist corrosion.)
Best Regards...

Re: CCKW brake parts
Hello,
Thanks for posting ,
Great information !!
Here is a link to the NAPA website, you can see "Made in USA" right in the casting.
$58.99
https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/UBP3677
Does anyone know if Advance are US made or Chinese ?
I will spend a little more for the US made wheel cylinders !!
I assume Napa would have US made wheel cylinders for the Dodge WC trucks as well.
Best Regards,
Ray

Do not forget to apply a touch of LUBRIPLATE 630AA Grease to all Brake Shoe pivot pin locations.

Re: CCKW brake parts
Hi 70th Division,
SNL G-508 ( July 1945 ) Shows the following PNs:
Front Linings (Banjo): 605379
Front Linings (Split): 2145001
Rear Linings: 605380
Although their website might not show it, these guys have a pretty good selection of CCKW parts (They actually have a front banjo set listed on e-pay right now).
https://www.wildenbergparts.nl/
These guys will reline brake shoes, not sure if they only bond the linings, or rivet them. You would have to check to make sure...

Re: CCKW brake parts
Try Whitw Owl for the Lined Shoes. Rear are samew forboth Banjo and Split. There are still some OEM Asbestos out there, they stop the best.
