Jerry Can holder question
How do I easily tell M series holders from the WWII ones? I know there are several differences, but I can't find the topic on here. Thanks Al Hansel

Re: Jerry Can holder question
Theres a link here, not an "Easy to tell" unless it has a number.

I (Had been told) that the easy way was the tab welding, something about tabs on welded on the bottom plates top VS tabs welded underneath the base, but that's just not accurate, it seems the War one's had no tabs and solid fronts (no openings for drainage).
I suppose the number is the default verification, I think lack of drain holes (opening at fold at bottom) that the modern (60's forward) have is a quick visual.
Check out Jeep Draw here about half way down under "SPARE FUEL CARRIER" http://jeepdraw.com/PART_COLOURS.htm he has a PDF from wartime that has some photos.

Modern with drain holes at bottom fold:
1942 (Jeep Draw apparently hosting this photo note no drain holes at fold and short tabs:
Post WWII Tabs welded on top, NO large holes in bottom other than 4 mounting holes:
One on e-bay claiming to be post war, but it looks like WWII to me:
It's only $45.50 with shipping, but someone would say it needs numbers, even though there is discussion of those without numbers being issued.
(I have had a modern one on my jeep for 25 years and no one has enquired yet...)
