The one on my ww2, 5 ton, its for air hose hook up. The air hose was part of the tool kit.
I have got four running halftracks, plus 5 ton ww2 semi-truck,1943 willys jeep and other ww2 vehicles, plus a lot of parts to trade on. Wendell in Tn.

It's so you can turn off the air regulator to get higher pressures for filling tires. A hose connects to a fitting on it.

That valve shuts off the air supply to the air governor, effectively disabling it so that the compressor will continue to pump air regardless of the pressure in the system. The hose fitting, which is not shown in the TM, is, I believe, not original.

As the normal shutoff pressure is around 105 psi, I would not have thought it was needed to inflate tyres due to the ample pressure already available. So I don't understand why that valve is there. It would certainly speed up the process of adjusting the governor dramatically.

The normal position is open which is in the vertical position on my 969.
