Does anybody know about this? Door or doors are on the sides. Was this a radio body?

Thanks

WWII Ordnance Van Bodies all had rear doors, they were Instrument repair, Small Arms, Machine Shop. Take a look thru David Doyles' CCKW Book and you will witness the K-designation Van Bodies with side doors in signal Corps use.

That is the closest picture I have seen. There are windows in the back and they appear smaller. The door looks right, a double door. The rivets in the front, behind the cab, run vertical in the picture, where they run horizontal on this body. And there is a vent in the front right top corner. I wish I had that book.
Thanks

Here's a back shot of the k-53

Since you know the body's builder, does it have a data plate like these?

Anyone notice the gas tank? It is on the opposite side from the regular shop vans if I remember correctly. That is where the spare tire goes.

The next question would be; why?

My K53 has fuel tanks on both sides. The tanks are smaller than the shop truck (ST-6) and the standard CCKW. The spare is mounted on the back.

What radio setup would be found in these signal corp vans? Would they be in racks? I have a big radio/boat anchor that has it's own case of ww11 vintage. Back in that time did they have everything in cases that were set up on tables when a base was established? How did the Signal Corps do it?

Thanks

The HO-17 radio shelter that fits into the cargo body of a CCKW would house an SCR399 setup. This is basically the SCR299 that was squeezed in the back of a 1.5 ton Chevy Panel at the beginning of WW2. It was called a K51 and towed a 1 ton trailer (K51) with a Jeep engine powered 10 KW genset to power the 400 watt (CW, 350 phone) BC610 transmitter.
