Restoration 1942 closed cab Autocar Tractor Truck U7144T

Post by Prop Trailer » Sun Apr 17, 2016 8:39 am

During the outside cleaning of the gas tank in preparation for painting I found on the cabin side a small data plate, attached to the tank with two small weldings.
Did anyone ever see a gas tank data plate on a WW2 US Army vehicle?

It reads (made by):

Metalcraft
Atlanta GA USA
Part no. AUG-6UKSF 0160

Have been googling, but could not find any wartime company. Any thoughts?

Hi Prop trailer, where is you fuel tank data plate located.... On the tank.

I believe my Autocar U8244T USN aircraft crash truck has its original fuel tank. I would be happy to check mine.

Thanks,

Yes, it is welded on the gastank! If you stand in front of the tank, it is on the left end side (cab side).
Boreholes are available in the plate, but obviously not used.....
Could mail pictures by PM, do not know how to tag them on the forum, sorry.

Hi Prop trailer, I looked at the fuel tank on my U8244T. I found the Autocar part number tag welded to the top edge of the the fuel tank, center, tank side facing the rear tires.

6AU0160

I have a similar type of data tag on a radiator. I believe it was a data plate installed buy the company that rebuilt in the radiator. But that's just a guess.

Hi Prop trailer, is your fuel tank a 30,60, or 90 gallon tank? Sorry I don't have very much info about your Autocar or mine.

Your tank tag
Metalcraft
Atlanta GA USA
Part no. AUG-6UKSF 0160

My tank tag. 6UA0160
There may be more stamped directly into tank bellow the part number tag. I'll take a look under the seven layers of pealing paint...;)

My fuel tank looks like it is about 30 gallon tank.

It is the Original 60 gallon gas tank, with only one layer of O.D. !!
Have a dataplate on my radiator too, will try to take picture or mail wording.
