Great, rare truck, fantastic acquisition. Wish you a fine restoration, of which I do hope we might see some pictures on the forum.

Re: USN Autocar U8244T
What a beautiful truck!!!
I suspect that many parts for this truck were also used on the much-more-common M1A1 (WLF) Heavy Wrecker, and so there is a source of some of the parts you mentioned.
The work lights are one I thought of immediately. PM me for how to get some.
The mounts for them are probably a different deal, I expect, but I don't know.
Have a nice day.
Sam.

GFOS, I am lovin' the anchors that split the 'U' and 'S' on your data plate. Great photos of your new baby, here is another to round out the tabulated data. Enjoy . Anyone notice the GPA next to the Wrecker?

Re: USN Autocar U8244T
WOW!,
Nice truck--glad you were able to get it home. In your earlier posts where you were asking for help to rotate the boom for transport, when you said "retract", you certainly had me confused. The model number of the wrecker threw me--pretty close to the number of the unit on the Ward LaFrance-but not the same. Now that I see the photos of the truck, it makes more sense. That cab has to be one of the coolest body styles ever put on a truck. Looks to be fairly rust free and mostly complete.
Excellent start on a rare piece of history! Good luck and please keep us up to date.

Re: USN Autocar U8244T
Excellent find! Can you post a picture of the big brass plate that is on the engine cover under the dash?
I have an air cleaner that came with a Waukesha SRK engine I bought as parts for my 1944 Sterling DD115 Navy truck project. I'll send you pictures of it this weekend - if it is the correct one you can have it. This engine also is mated up with a radiator that is off of a truck like yours.
Dave.

Re: USN Autocar U8244T
I took a few photographs of the air cleaner I have that I thought might be for a truck like your Autocar. However, I sent these to a couple of people, and they think it is for an armored vehicle given the heavy pattern cast iron elbow and how the two-bolt flange is designed to mount to a bulkhead/firewall.

Re: USN Autocar U8244T
This is my favorite ww2 wrecker...
The rear axle is the heavy type just like the WLF, Engine and gearbox (RXC) Diamond T.
About the winch I read something about parts being comparable with a Oshkosh W709.
Good luck restoring this beauty!!
