[quote="forestry4evr"]It is unfortunate that the duck hit a bus as that has drawn NTSB's attention.
You are absolutely correct. If the failure had occurred on the ramp during landing it would have been no more than a talking point for those aboard and probably not even made the evening news. The combination of circumstances were such that everything went against them. Even the shape of the bow contributed by opening up the side of the bus like a can of beens.

Still a good idea to give your GM front axle a thorough going over.

This could have grave implications for our hobby! I can see a blanket banning as a clear possibility. I look at what happened in Wisconsin when suddenly all military vehicles were not allowed to be registered . It took several years of hard work by clubs and vehicle owners to get the state to even allow very restricted use. Once the lawyers and the lawsuits get going all hell could break out for our hobby.

Best wait until the investigation is over. These trucks were made to take a pounding.

One sobering thought is what probably would have happened if there was no bus to slow/stop the DUKW........wedge-shaped nose, short guardrails on the bridge deck, lots of moving mass....

FYI,
Follow up concerning the 2015 DUKW/bus crash in Seattle.
Although this is primarily DUKW related, it could potentially apply to Banjo equipped CCKWs.
