CCKW DO DADS THAT MAKE GOOD CONVERSATION.
I never tire of the chance to install a new CCKW trinket or Do-Dad on my CCKW, especially when it brings it closer to the way it looked when it left the Yellow Truck and Coach factory. MV Spares has Do-Dads for more than just Jeeps.
Do Dads take a while to gather. Here are a few that took a while.
The early Louvered Markers are my latest Do Dad, manufactured by Darcy Miller, compliments of Midwest Military, they were original to this truck and can't think of a better early WWII feature to point out. ]
Next is the NOS early Air Cleaner used with the Die Cast Carburetor, The SWB Spare Tire Lock, compliments of Christophe Chevalet, took from 1983 to 2011, and from 1983 until 2010 to find a NOS pair of Guide A2 Oval Reflectors with Stimsonite 12 Amber Lens (Sans AGA). The Bridge Classification Plate is from Willy, G-503 Radio Specialist. Other than the blue Louvered B.O. Marker Doors.
The entire electrical system is made up of original NOS DELCO, and Guide components.
It took about a dozen years for a nice one to appear but the symmetrical early grill showed up via John Cliché who picked it up a NOS one of the MVPA Nationals for me.

Thanks Joel. The restoration of the Ben-Hur is coming right along. Time is so hard to come by in the summer with everything going on though.

Re: CCKW DO DADS THAT MAKE GOOD CONVERSATION.
If your CCKW Restoration is fairly complete and you want to fine tune the CCKW details, the electrical system and reflectors are a good place to add detail as the Charging System, Ignition System, and Lighting System are all GM Products, Guide Lights, Reflectors, Delco Coil, Battery, Starter, Generator, Light Switch, B.O. Drive, etc.
Ignition Switches were all DELCO, and were keyed thru early 42.
Anyone note that the Headlamp Bulbs are WWII Corcoran Brown Seelites? Got a NOS pair of WWII Issue Guides to install when the mood hits me.

Re: CCKW DO DADS THAT MAKE GOOD CONVERSATION.
Don't be afraid to install a NOS WWII CCKW Coil, the one with the white porcelain Tower, they are reliable and still surface at shows and the internet as GM-11115149 and GM-1115328, they look neat as they are installed upside down. This coil is right there in your face when looking at the RH side of the engine.

FINALLY A LOCKING DOOR HANDLE
The 1941 1st Series CCKWX and CCKW's with the 1574 Closed Cab all had a RH Locking Door Handle, the later CCKW 1608 Closed Cab CCKW would all have conventional non locking type. The Parts manual lists this GM-2112887 Handle as having a GM-3246732 code 8000 Key which is installed in the handle. I plan to have the lock rekeyed to H-700 to match the Glove Box Lock, Ignition Switch and the two SWB Spare Tire Locks.
The 1st Series CCKW with 1574 Cab driver side door also has an inside door lock knob in order to lock the drivers door from the inside. When the key is turned to the "Lock" position on the RH Door handle, it freewheels which is a 20's-40's style thing.
This should keep the curious from monkeying around inside the cab of my CCKW where I keep hard to find CCKW goodies stored in the Glove Box and on and under the seat.
I have had this NOS WWII Surplus GM-2112887 Locking Handle with its 3 GM keys since the good old surplus days when surplus WWII trucks were a common sight on the road. The handle has been rediscovered and set it aside several times over the past 30 years and I kept misplacing it, not any more tho, it's now right where it belongs on an original CCKW 1574 cab door.
Will get a pic or two later this week.

Re: CCKW DO DADS THAT MAKE GOOD CONVERSATION.
And do not forget that Jerry Biro has these Evanair Fuel Fired Heaters. Just right to warm your CCKW engine's belly during this cold snap. Hang one under the engine, attach the fuel line to your CCKW's fuel tank drain fitting and you are "good to go".
These are what the WWII GI's did to CCKW's (And other MV's) during the winter to get them to start.

Imagine throwing a tarp around the under chassis of a CCKW (or Jeep) in WWII in order to keep it warm enough to start.Ben Dover wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2016 2:16 pmAnd do not forget that Jerry Biro has these Evanair Fuel Fired Heaters. Re: CCKW DO DADS THAT MAKE GOOD CONVERSATION.
Don't know if the trucks used a winterization kit like the jeeps did. I thought the jeep kit was asbestos blankets that snapped in plate under the engine, over the hood and on the grill.
Did the trucks have slave sockets for jumping other vehicles like the jeeps did?
