It may just need a simple cure. Remove the band from the DELCO generator and note the brushes add commutator, do they look gummed up, are the segments filled in? Take your jackknife are clean out the segments, start the truck and spray an electrical cleaner or Brake-Kleen on the commutator to rinse the scum off. Some vehicles only get a few miles a year but are oiled more often than needed, the residue from brushes and excess oil mix will coat the commutator preventing the generator from charging.
It's a tip worth a try and it works.
My CCKW Generator, installed NOS, has been getting several drops of OE after winter storage for 30+ years and has had this minor issue for the past 5 years, it makes a difference how much you drive your MV. }
There is a note at the top of all LO's that advise to reduce lubrication intervals for abnormal operation.

Good tip! Would work for most old generators and starters.
Best to use a non-flammable contact cleaner on an energized generator though, to prevent a possible flare up from the sparking brushes.
Here's what the electricians use at work on electric motors:

Good suggestion, I did use what was left of my Lectra-Motive, Brak-Kleen works well, it has little flammability, if at all with little danger on an idling GMC-270 outdoors. I takes about 20-30 seconds of application this way. Lectra-Motive is a better choice.
