GMC Grill logo question

Post by cessna » Wed Dec 31, 2014 12:23 pm

Hello guys,
Could someone please take a detailed photo of how the GMC emblem is secured onto the grill? I have a Feb 1942 truck which must have had it removed while the truck was in French service or when it went through one of it's rebuilds. I do have an original one to install, but was not sure if it was welded in the back, tacked on the sides etc.
Thanks for your time,
Brian

Tacked on by the tabs at the sides. I have seen reproduction replacements that the metallurgy mad it difficult to weld to the grill bars.
If you want, I have two grills with intact originals that I can look in the AM for evidence spot welding.

I checked out the intact CCKWX and CCKW radiator guards I have and the emblems are attached by two spot welds either side. A pick will follow soon.

Here's photos from two different 1st Series CCKW radiator guards, they are not perfect, but the spot welds are visible.
