U.S.A. W-454317 PEARL HARBOR VETERAN

Post by Joe Gopan » Sat Dec 07, 2013 6:41 am

CCKW 352 U.S.A. W-454317 was manufactured in May 1941. Was it a Pearl Harbor Veteran, there is no way to know, but it was on active duty at that date. I'll spend a quiet moment in the cab today remembering my WWII veteran friends and mentors, especially the local hometown National Guardsmen from the 152nd Field Artillery who were activated in the spring of 1941 and spent 1942-1945 in the South Pacific Jungles as part of the 43rd Infantry Division.

She looks really good in the snow, Joel. I like the contrast of the colors.

Joel,

Looking good! From your tracks it looks like Dec 7 was a warm day for Maine; it often is bitter cold, fitting for the date I suppose. I always take note of the weather on Dec. 7 because once inthe 80's while driving to work on I-95 I nearly cooked an engine when my radiator froze. Always checked my antifreeze better since that day.

I read in the newspaper that American citizens are taking less notice of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, a shame really as that event changed the world as we knew it.

The photos of my "Jimmy" were actually taken Dec 1, 2012. It was sunny, windy and in the low 30'sF on Dec 7, 2013 with a few scattered snowflakes on the ground from the night before.
The newspapers are not an accurate indication of patriotism, as long as there are veterans around, Dec 7, 1941 will not be forgotten.

Hello Joe,

Great Day to see you back on the G !

I hope you are doing well, and I thank you for your Military Service.

We must always the Remember Pearl Harbor Attack on our People and remember those that were lost on that Sunday morning, the entire world was altered that day.
We must remember and honor those that were lost, and those that survived, and all our Veterans, everyday.

We honor and remember them every time we restore a WW2 vehicle, take it for a drive, share it with others along with the history behind it.
When we rescue a derelict military vehicle, and save it, we honor them, as we are trying to keep the memory alive of those who were there, and won the victory that we enjoy today !!

Every Day is Veterans Day for me, from the Colonial Days to today !

Like every day is a Thanksgiving Day, everyday is a good day to give thanks to God for all his Blessings, and to thank God for all those who have protected America from our first beginnings !

Best Regards,
Ray

Remembering Pearl Harbor.
Hello Joe,
I hope you are doing better and doing well !

Your truck is a great tribute to the Pearl Harbor Veterans and will help remember them !!

I have a 1941 pre-Pearl Harbor GMC 353, and feel the same way, and will greatly enjoy restoring it,
hoping that it will be done as correctly as your truck and look as good.

Best Regards,
Ray
