Ben, to be clear the 270 intake manifolds you have are the WW2 versions with smaller ports as opposed to the 50's version with the larger ports.

The intakes are OEM for 228, 256,270, etc late 30's-early 50's with the small pilot rings as used on GMC CCKW, DUKW and other WWII era GMC straight 6 Cyl. engines. I try not to get mixed up with the 50's and later 270/302 engines that use the larger pilot rings that some how end up in CCKW's for whatever reason.
I always question my customers to make sure that the parts I sell them fit.

Will be on alert for the later 270/302 Intakes with the larger Pilot Rings. Would love to find a 270 from a circa 1956 GMC 1/2 Ton P.U.. It would have the latest intake manifold and head with large intake pilot rings and actually have more power than the CCKW 270.

And Steve, you did know that in 1954 Chevrolet made a special Police Sedan with a special GMC 270 Engine that had guts.

I didn't know that!

As I recall, the 270 etc. engines are a little longer so they maybe did something with the radiator moving it forward?

It's been years since I have discussed this. Do a web search on 1954 Chevrolet Police Sedan, special engine. I might try a little later.

Ben, the 50's 270 is rated at 140 hp as I recall and the 302 from the 50's has 158-160 hp

On both engines they went to side front motor mounts. They literally removed the front foot.
You have to remove the cam and every thing associated with it to swap the plate behind the timing cover with one with the foot.

These 50's engines also have a 6 bolt flat flywheel. The flywheel is not the same as a 6 bolt chevy.
The 302 has a bigger flywheel and Brown and Lippe clutch that will not work inside the CCKW bellhousing.

My 302 has a 270 flywheel and a 1974 Corvette complete clutch kit! All bolts together w/o any thing else
There is even more room inside the bellhousing than with the stock setup.

Unfortunately, the 50's gm truck designers had perfected body rot. They are hard to find in the snow belt.

Steve makes this look simple, he has had plenty of practice.
I normally do not get into retrofitting the slightly different 50's 270's/302's with their important finer details due to the scarcity of parts needed to properly mate them to the CCKW. They are a good prospect if one can make it work, Flywheels, Crankshafts, intake manifold compatibility, etc., make for an all points of the compass endeavor. There are descriptions of these upgrades using fancy terms, but fancy terms do not make obsolete parts appear.
It is much more fun to drop in a rebuilt and stock original engine.

NOTE:
I only sell NOS OEM GMC Intakes and Exhaust Manifolds made to fit the 270 in the CCKW, usually, include an extra Stud, Pilot Ring, exhaust pipe Gasket, etc., (all NOS) that way all my customers are very happy.
Am getting very short on these NOS items and my original suppliers are out of them.

Am out of NOS 228 thru 302 GMC Exhaust Manifolds. (did save a spare for myself) I stocked up on them during the 70's 80's from surplus and General motors. been since the 80's that GM had them in warehouses. Do have NOS Intakes for the CCKW and have some used CCKW manifold Assy's that I removed from 270's I imported from Europe. The Heat Control Valves may be deteriorated and the gasket surfaces may needed truing up. I get $175.00 plus FedEx Ground for the used assembly. I can include good used clamps and maybe some pilot rings with the manifolds I sell.
I may have a NOS AFKW Intake.
