CCKW THINGS I WILL NOT DO

Post by Joe Gopan » Sat Aug 07, 2010 2:08 pm

Drill holes in the Closed Cab to install accessories that did not originally come with the truck when new, Rifle Rack, fire extinguisher relocation, and Decontaminator are not going to happen. On the outside of the cab the gas can brackets on running boards and Pioneer Tool Bracket on the Hood Side Panels ain't gonna happen. Hanging Kit is out too, it covers the natural beauty of the CCKW and gives it the "rummage sale" look. No port of entry shipping stencils either, what useful purpose does it serve. Without Gas cans, the Water Bucket gets stashed where it belongs-out of sight.

 that all sounds very good

 Now me on the other hand would run tires 2 sizes bigger then factory, strap a boat tank to the inner fender well, and have a perfectly smashed fender from a drunk driver if it were my truck  then to top it off the truck will be unregistered cause its in the great state of Wisconsin

I will not allow any volunteer drivers to operate my CCKW at events or parades as it is too late for anyone to safely learn to operate a CCKW during an event or parade. There were too many instances of veterans who claimed "I drove one of these in the Army" only to comment when seated, "where is 1st", ""which way is reverse", or "where is the key".

Didn't you hear?

He's recovering from a most unfortunate mishap.

Whilst changing an 11.00 x 20 tire as fitted to an original wartime Budd rim, the bead ring gave away and exploded into the boat fuel cell retrofitted as an aux gas tank. He'd struck his head on a severely dented fender trying to get out of the way of the blast.

Poor Mike is fighting with his insurance carrier to defray his medical bills, but thus far they've declined responsibility for any claims as the vehicle didn't have currency status with his state's DVM. Dreadful situation, all around.

- Robert in PHX

(Sorry, Mike... couldn't resist... hoping in spite of the above, you're well).

Participate in a parade without performing a safety check and drive a truck that requires carrying a container of brake fluid to top off the master cylinder. Will not attempt to double clutch or do a high speed downshift just to impress.

Take my eyes off the road or get momentarily distracted. More often that not there is a mother or kid that will decide to scurry across the road in front of you.

I know I have had a good parade when my horn actually blows on first try when passing the reviewing stand at the end of the parade.

You can't afford to take chances when in a parade. None whatsoever. We had a club member lose control of his truck during a parade a few years back and run down six ex-servicemen leaving one in a critical condition. Things have never been the same since. The march organisers immediately banned trucks from taking part.

As a living history unit, we decided to stop letting people inside to have supervised tours of the halftracks, truck, and tanks we brought to events. The liability and stupidity issue is getting out of control. Were near Chicago, and they proudly teach litigation as a career choice in the schools. I dont mean a career as a lawyer, i mean a career of going to public places, faking an accident, then suing.

Hi Jesse,
You could have them sign a waiver and some low morals lawyer would still find a way to sue you and win. :x Pretty sad where we are at now.
