Hi Ken
Just noticed that your truck has provision for the blackout driving light on the mudguard I didnt think the early ones had that and the grille (brush guard) was shorter from the photos I have seen
Cheers

Shane
From what we found when we took her apart the Driving black out light was added on later as there was a separate wire running from inside the cab along the main wire harness to the blackout light. So we did the same thing we have a separate wiring running from the cab. We also have her set up as an early 42 which would have still been Positive ground. She runs fine and has no problems. Is there any chance that you could take some pics of your bonnet and hinges? this way I can compare.
I also took her out on the road today this morning got her up to 33 MPH but thats all the faster she will go any ideas??
Here are some more photos

Hope to have more later this week.

Hi Ken
I am in the process of getting some photos for you and I will email them today as I am not sure how to put them on this site but having another look at mine yours seem to be around the wrong way on the front arm
Speed Hmmmm
1 have you got your govenor opened right up there is a screw under the carby that you can back it off I would open it right out
2 is your speedo correct they do have a habit of not reading correctly after all these years
3 Make sure you do not have any brakes grabbing this will slow it down
4 Check your timing Pete and I set ours about 2-3 degrees before top dead centre and that makes them go better but no more than 3 degrees
5 Check that the distributor is not loose and moving
6 Make sure you have no water in the fuel or the fuel is stale
That is about all I can think of at the moment
Will have the photos to you today
Cheers
Shane

Well went out for another drive on the road today and was able after playing with the carb to get her up to 40 MPH now it did go up to 42 but that was down hill. Also after driving her for a while the oil pressure dropped down to 23 psi at idle but was at 40-42 at driving speeds.
Any ideas
Ken

Hi Ken
That is good news it will get a bit faster as the engine beds in that oil pressure is good for a JXD dont worry about that
Cheers

Well I have some great news today....
The seats are in yeah I know they are black canvas but for only 120 and new foam all the labor I cant complain and they will also make me seat covers to go over them.
Image
Image
Also did some cab work today as I installed the glove box and both kick panels. Took her out for a drive after we did a little work on the timing and she was able to get up to 43 mph. Drives great... :D :D
Image
Then came back and found out that she blew the rear main shaft oil seal on the transfer case. This sucks :( :( :(
Image
All over the back of the cab
Image
But went on to other things as I installed the new glass in the window wings they look great.
Image

Hey Question for you all
Should I have any clearance with the shaft?? On my rear rear drive axle I have some play in the drive shaft but the front rear drive axle has no play in the shaft take a look
Image

Thats all for today.

Hi Ken
Bad news you need at least 2inches travel between the end of the female and the front of the big male piece of the shaft or you WILL stuff your universal joints, your talshaft can bend and maybe punch the end of the transfer case in looks like it could be the wrong shaft You can get it shortened to the right length also when you redo your seal take the breather out and soak it in petrol and then blow it out with air also do your gearbox and diffs and pillow block if they are blocked with dirt etc you will always have leaking seals also put a triple lip neoprehene seal in and check your yoke for grooves you may need to put a speedie sleeve on it or get it built up
Cheers

Well
Got the driveshaft shortened along with the new seal and she drives great. Took her out again for a drive and it was able to make it up to 43-44 actually saw 48 but we were going down hill. Had a buddy of mine come down from Wisconsin and he got to drive her a little bit. He had to get used to the shifting pattern said it was really funky. But he likes how shes drives. I am hoping to have the wind shield in this weekend so that I can take her to a local parade on Monday she wont have the bed on her yet but will be mostly there.
Hope to have some pics...

Ken

Hi Ken
Did you clean the breather out on the transfer case and all the other breathers as when the oil gets hot it builds up pressure and the first place it can get out is through the seals and it is very hard to stop them leaking and you can keep replacing the seals but you wont fix the problem so it is an easy thing to prevent
Sorry to waffle on but it is one of my pet hates when people have the same problem but dont fix the simple cause
Cheers

Well here is todays update .......
Picked up the hood, bumperettes, and new upper engine skirts from the blasters and had them painted and then installed them today.
As some might not know we picked up a second Studebaker bummer is that she has a cracked frame but lots of good parts that we can use.

Here are the pics of the new 1945 Stude

Now the tear down we made quick work of her
