CCKW HONORS VETERANS

Post by Joe Gopan » Sat Sep 20, 2008 5:43 am

The CCKW is an excellent parade vehicle as there is plenty of room to haul several Veterans. The truck sets rather high and offers the crowd a good view of the passengers.
Veterans Day is around the corner and Veterans do enjoy parades, and there is no better combination than a CCKW with a WWII Veteran sitting in the passenger seat as guest of honor. Veterans enjoy riding in the same type of MV they were so familiar with so long ago, and for a few moments they get a fleeting bit of their youth back.
For the past few years, Peter Marini, a WWII enlisted Pilot who flew anti sub patrol from 1941-1945 along the coast from Texas to Florida in the North American O-47 and Stinson L-5, has been Guest of Honor. Peter spotted several U-Boats on his missions and was awarded medals for those missions. Not many war stories from Peter, just a passing remark that he occasionally spotted a sub and passed on the information to those who would respond in order to sink it. This Veterans Day my passenger seat will be empty, Peter passed away last month at the age of 91.
Time does not stand still.

Remembering PETER MARINI

Post by Joe Gopan » Mon Mar 20, 2017 2:01 pm

Peter Marini, WWII Enlisted Pilot would have been 100 years old this year, my dog "Fluffy" always rode with us in the parades, she passed away just after Peter Marini.
Peter was our American Legion Post Chaplain, a retired Private Detective, once worked for Voice of America, EAA member, and active pilot well into his 80's.
