WTB G8T 2GT

Post by Myers » Fri Jan 05, 2018 7:07 pm

I am tentatively in the market for a G8T or 2GT project. Something that is mostly complete and is not chopped/rusted to hell and back. Just a decent restoration candidate.

Hoping to find one in the Missouri area.

Here are some options. (Not mine). Hopefully the first one did not go to the scrap yard yet.

Hi John, thanks for the links. I have searched the g/Ebay/craigslist and a few ford truck forums for a decent project. It seems like you can get them at a reasonable price, but transport costs would be the killer. Rick’s truck would be perfect, but getting it from California would be a deal breaker I think. I have never had such a large vehicle transported before. I’m hoping to find something not too terribly far from MO.

Just to give you an idea of shipping. a M135 2 1/2 ton from KS to CA was quoted at 750.00 a few times with truckers who flaked. Ended up paying 1750.00 and it came on a conventional large car transporter. The truck you are looking for is lighter, but not that much smaller. Just to give you actual costs

Very interesting, I imagined transport costs would have been much higher..

I used to own one....long story. I’ve always liked them and would love to find another one. I wish you luck in your search.

I am very intrigued by them. From what I've seen so far, they are very cheap to buy, there is a good supply of parts, and they are a nice compromise between a very large truck and the jeep sized vehicles. A closed cab is a big bonus as well. I also like the looks of them a lot more than the Chevy/GMC counterparts. It seems like the stake trucks are more common, but I would like to find a cargo body.

I'm not in a position to restore one right now, but I would like to find a good candidate to hold onto for a future project.

Still trying to figure out all the differences in the 2GT-86, 2GT, 2G8T, G8T, and all the other 1.5 ton Ford military trucks. It's starting to make sense, but I never knew there were so many variations until I started looking through the Master Parts List and subsequent TMs.

Hi Myers,
Here's a Ford variation that you may not have seen yet...

I'm not sure if it's military, but it sure is interesting. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Hi; I've hauled both a G8T and my G-506 on a regular car trailer with dual 5,000lb axles and full brakes. Just run the truck forward until the duals are nr the fenders and go. A 7,000 lb GVW trailer might be a bit light, but a 10,000 up GVW trailer should handle those trucks. Also be aware of your load's height on trailer. Oregon lets us weigh 20,000 combined with passenger plates, California/ Washington are 16,000 max. Newc

Myers,
Here is one with an Oklahoma area code.
Seems pretty pricey considering no title, but anyways....

Hi Roy,

Yes I agree, it definitely seems high compared to the others I've seen. I've been trying to figure out exactly what it is for the past few days. It has features from several different models.
