Merry Christmas Gents. I looked out my kitchen window a few minutes ago and found that snow was falling. I know that this is not new for a lot of guys here on the "G", but it is for me. Being from the roasting pan of west coast, (So. Cal.), I am not used to snow and colder weather. I do find it very refreshing though.
I haven't done much with my Chevy lately due to a very hectic work schedule and the fact that the Sun sets around 1545 Hrs. here in the Pacific North-West. About all I have been able to do is collect some much wanted extra parts for though. I took a few photos just now of Emma in the falling snow.
I hope that Santa brings everyone the olive drab toys they've asked for.

Thank Yon Jon. And many happy returns to you and your family. I still miss my Dad very much even though things are going well, that's the only thing that brings me down.

Gents, I made some progress today on several fronts. One was the 4 spoke 18" Dia. steering wheel that I saved from one of the Chevy's I found in a Bremerton recycling yard, Navy City Metals. I also received some mud flaps from Tom at V.o.V., Thanks Tom. Here are some photos of today's efforts.
I had been pondering how to tackle this wheel on and off for some time and nothing was accomplished. So I just picked up the sand paper and put some elbow grease into it and within an hour she was ready for primer.
Primed and ready for paint.
After scuffing the primer with a scotch bright pad, I sprayed some paint on it, F.S.N. 33070.
The air was pretty dry today however the temps. are still in the mid '40's. So spraying primer and paint takes a little more patience and lighter coats than in So. Cal., I am finding. The wheel still turned out well and is hanging in my garage so the paint will cure well. I also finished the front gate for my Ben Hur trailer, but you will have to go to the 1/2 t + trailer section to see that.
Here are the mud flaps.
Thanks for looking!

Re: Emmaline's Reconstruction.
I have a GPW that I finished up a couple of years ago and I'm now in the process of maintaining and slowly making "better" I have a thread I started a while back with some pictures: http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=267732
I feel like I'm playing with fire everytime I say and think this, but I'd love to pick up either a G506 or 1/2 ton WC for my next project. There's just something about the larger WWII trucks that I love! For now, though, I'll live vicariously through threads like yours

Wow, Your jeep really looks great!!!! I love the picture of when you let the "magic smoke" out of your wiring. It's funny, (and not Ha-Ha funny), when one lets the smoke out of the wire harness how nothing seems to work the same again.

Re: Emmaline's Reconstruction.
Thanks! You're completely right about the wiring, too! Fortunately, that was two years ago. Things are working as they should be now and (knock on wood) haven't had a problem since Gotta love these old OD toys of ours, though. Always something new to learn and always a surprise hiding somewhere!

That stamping might be an interweaved M and W which could be the "Motor Wheel Corporation" I think I recall seeing that symbol on steel wheels, before.

Wowee, I can't believe 5 months have passed since I did anything to my Chevy. I have been working pretty steadily on my Ben Hur, and with it approaching completion it is high time I get back to The Old Girl!! Last summer I had removed quite a few add-on's from the frame and plugged about 30 holes that didn't belong in the chassis.
Well, during this past week I worked on the fuel tank support. After the mechanic at the vineyard moved the tank and support to the outside of the chassis, he cut the horizontal end of the "L" angle that attaches to the driver side support. So I had to weld a new piece of flat stock back onto it to make it whole again. Here are some photos.
I don't weld every day, but I am skilled enough NOT to make "booger-welds". I just couldn't figure out why my puddles were going all over the place . Then I remembered from welding school that strong magnets will affect the electrical arc and cause the puddles to runs in curious directions. Duh !! So I made a few small tack-welds and removed the magnets and all was well again at 2MarDivPacNorWesMoT RepDep.
More garbage being removed from one of the supports.
Here it is all ready for the sandblaster.
Clean!!
Ready for paint!!
Thanks for looking.

Looking good, Dave.
If you have a moment, post some photos of the trailer. It would be great to see that as well.

Hi John, thank you for your compliment. I hope all is well with you in D.C. You know, I found 2 Chevy's about one half mile from where I live. They have never been taken apart and are languishing in storage yard. HINT, HINT, HINT .
As for the trailer my thread is here; viewtopic.php?f=28&t=293781.
Be well my friend!!

Hi Dave,
Nice work on the gas tank supports, I've been working in steel shops for most of my life and never new that magnets impacted weld transfer, I'll have to check that out.
That trailer thread was a great read, you're quite the carpenter. I see those old Hobarts on Craigslist from time to time, I'd like to find a 40's Lincoln or Hobart welder to put on my truck at some point.
Keep up the good work!
