Hi Paul,
Great to see your progress on this truck. Those bearings should be available. Here's an earlier thread we had on this with contact info from the supplier I used in California:

Thanks John, I have slept a few times since we last discussed PTO drivetrain. I will have to assemble all of the pieces and parts that I have for this driveline to see what needs to be sourced. I believe I am missing the ~36 inch long 13/16 inch diameter shaft that goes from the pillow block to the ram pump. Bubba made one but it "ain't pretty", or functional.

I know what you mean. I had a vague memory of that thread and had to google it to get it back.
Dave recently snagged a bunch of parts from a dump out in Washington. You should drop him a line to see if he pulled the PTO driveshafts or if he still has the ability to do so if the truck hasn't been scrapped yet.

Re: 1942 Chevy G-7106 restoration
Getting some components for the PTO drivetrain.
All of the components to the right of the shorter and smaller driveshaft will go on Gert. The other parts are either too worn or the wrong size. The previous owner used an odd assemblage of parts including a 7/8 inch driveshaft and one extra u-joint included on the black slip-joint...not sure how that setup worked.
On the hunt to get the other correct 13/16 rear driveshaft.

Re: 1942 Chevy G-7106 restoration
Hey all,
Finally got all the appropriate PTO driveline parts procured and assembled. I had to fabricate the pump actuator rod from scratch as it was not present on this truck. Last night for the first time in +-50 years, the Hercules dump bed on old "Gert" is once again functioning. Seems to work quite well, see what you think.

Enjoy!

Nice dump truck Paul,
The constant steady progress you continue to make on your trucks is impressive, where do you find the time?

Well a little before I got my 41 truck, I quit watching TV and that freed up a lot of time. Bringing back some old "rusty junk" from a long dormant or unusable state is also somewhat addictive to me, especially if someone says it cant be done (Jon, I believe you suffer from this addiction too). I also have a personal goal to do something great or small on these old trucks every day, even if it is nothing more than chasing some threads on a housing or searching for reference material on the internet. Its quite amazing how much can be done if the forward momentum is maintained. And...I have to admit, sometimes the grass in my yard grows a little tall... Since the 41 is a driver, the real challenge is to actually do some work as now on nice sunny days all I want to do is this:kelley wrote:Nice dump truck Paul,

Gert pulled her first gig today. Dropped off some firewood to an elderly lady down the road this morning. The dump drive train and ram system worked very well. Check it out, she's quite the monster....

Hope you all had some time to play with your trucks!

Re: 1942 Chevy G-7106 restoration
Made a little more progress on ol' Gert. A couple of weekends ago we had fantastic outdoor painting weather so I took the opportunity to shoot some panels and last weekend got them bolted back on the truck. It sure is gratifying to get big stuff moved out of the shop and installed.
It actually looks like a truck again.
A little perspective of what it looked like before all of this started.
On recovery day.

Looks great, Paul.
That truck is June '42, correct? Interesting it has a serpentine grille. Mine was a June truck made in Oakland and had the later grille. Nothing saying mine was original, but I think it's an interesting observation.

Looks great Paul,
My 4/42 Oakland truck also has the later grill. I'm sure the odds are better than 50/50 that the original grill has been stuffed and replaced sometime in the last 50-60 years.
Hey John, Have you seen this...

Just a short ride from DC, AND it has a serpentine grill. Better reserve a U haul for Saturday.

Thanks for the temptation, Jon.
My master plan is to wait for Paul to finish his and then when his wife says "get some of that old iron out of the yard" I'll be in the wings to snatch one of his up.

Lookin' good Paul !!! John, it's not fair for you to be able to get another truck that way. You gotta put in your own work around here. After all, Paul is the guy who has bumped his head working under chassis and skinned his knuckles turning wrenches and pulled his hair out when thing weren't going quite so well. Not you..........lol .
