Great job with the doors and the whole truck for that matter Paul, I'm glad those little rings worked out well for you.
Thanks for posting the great progress.

Hey Signup,
Take a look at Forestry's most recent post 2/11/18, scroll down to the 9th image (painted doors hanging out side ). Take a good look thru the junk pile, are those gas tank straps?

Re: Chevy G-7106 restoration
Thanks for the kind and encouraging words. As the guys who are in the process of rebuilding/restoring these old gals know, there are many hours required to do a reasonably good job.
Since Gert is going to run a 12 volt system, I am in the process of repurposing a non-operating 6-volt blackout drive light to work with a common 1156 12-volt bulb. The parts/concept is from another G506 owner that sometimes comes on this site (thanks Phillip). I will share some images soon.
Jon, you are very astute in locating G506 pieces and parts out of my junk pile. That is a fuel tank bracket/strap for a cargo truck that I recently pulled out of my spare parts bunker. Robert has indicated twice that he wants the part and we even mutually agreed on a price, but getting him to finish the deal has been quite elusive. Quite perplexing...

Re: Chevy G-7106 restoration
Should that have been a "Timberrrr!!!" Or a "Bombs Away!!!" !
Or possibly a "Timber-Away!!!"
She is looking good! It's always nice to see the old "War Iron" working like it was built to function.
If that truck could talk, I'll bet it would tell some good stories, but that straight six still sings it's good ole gasoline song!

Hey all,
A quick walk around of old Gert taken just the other day. She is sitting on a steep hill so the camera angle looks a little weird,

Enjoy!

Re: Chevy G-7106 restoration
Thanks for the positive comments guys. You know it is truly amazing how well these old trucks start and run once tuned up well. They want to run. This truck often starts almost immediately...unless I mess up the choke mixture!

Re: Chevy G-7106 restoration
Hey all,
Hope everyone is doing okay and taking advantage of this great fall joyriding weather.
Well with a heavy heart I have one last story for this tread about old "Gert". About a year ago I got an inquiry about the possibility of selling the truck. At the time I had no intention of selling so I really didn't think much of the suggestion. Well with a little prodding, eventually a deal was made. With sorrow, my time with "Gert" ended last week. The good part is that one of our own here on the "G" is the new owner, and old Gert is still in the great state of North Carolina albeit on the opposite side of the state.
One really damp morning last week I had the opportunity to drive Gert one last time. As always, she was eager to start and drive.
Loaded up and heading into the sunset...well actually it was heading east into the sunrise, but you get the idea.
The many long hard relatively thankless dirty days of cutting/grinding/welding/painting on this old war horse are just a memory now. During the process, much has been learned and it was a great journey. Old Gert has found a good new owner and hopefully she will be cared for as much as she was in my tenure.
